♥ 1. Where did you come from? You may not know anyone else on the boat, but you've all got one thing in common; you're headed to Republic City. ♥ 2. It's your first day in Republic City. You might wanna get a job lined up or you'll be living on the streets. ♥ 3. You're the new person in the city. You gotta make some friends, right? Go find someone and strike up a conversation.
♦ 4. Feeling a little crafty? Maybe you could make a quick yuan. Sell information for money or do a little threatening. ♦ 5. Vines. Vines everywhere! They're like the heads of a hydra. What are you going to do about the vines that just invaded your apartment? ♦ 6. Triads, Equalists... thugs in general. Welcome to the aftermath of losing a fight. Are you gonna go find a healer or are you gonna tough it out?
♣ 7. You've got a job. What is it? How are you going to get customers? You better get some soon. More customers equals more money. ♣ 8. You're a bender, right? Then you better practice it. What's that? Oh, a non-bender? You can still find a partner to spar with, right? ♣ 9. It's late. Have a drink at the pub! Get to know one another. Let it all flow freely!
♠ 10. Yeah! You've got a driver's license! Everyone else better watch out... ♠ 11. Entertainment's just rolled on into the city! Watch the ostrich-horses race or the acrobats perform. Or maybe you're one of them! ♠ 12. It's a long line at whatever vendor you're at. Make small talk with nearby civilians or try and haggle the vendor down to a better price.

Re: 4
"Good evening, Miss Sato. You know, it really isn't safe to be out alone at night in this city."

I can handle myself.
[She keeps walking. This sort of thing isn't uncommon, after night has fallen. She's lived in the city her whole life, and she's confident in her ability to protect herself. Whatever this guy wants, she can handle it.]
no subject
Heh. I'm sure. ...And if not, I'm sure you can always call on your friends in the Triad to help you out.
no subject
Right?]
Last I knew, they aren't too keen on making friends.
Sorry for delay, was too depressed to tag the past couple days.
...And yet, these documents make it look like you are quite chummy.
Don't worry about it, I've obviously been slow as molasses.
[Asami's voice doesn't waver, but she turns around to face the stranger.]
What are you trying to pull, exactly?
no subject
[Slade's tone changes to one of mock indignation.]
"Pull?" Ms. Soto, you make me sound like some sort of con man.
[Slade steps in close and shows her the incriminating documents, one at a time.]
I'm simply offering an exchange of services.
no subject
Who are you?
[She's not in the position to be making any demands, but she knows that cracking completely is the worst thing she can do right now.]
no subject
They call me Slade. A pleasure to make your acquaintance.
no subject
What kind of services are we discussing, here?
no subject
[The rain intensifies and lightning cracks across the sky, sharply illuminating Slade's imposing figure for a moment.]
I will keep this information to myself, and I will dissuade other groups from prying into it.
In exchange, you will build some devices to my specifications. The kind that are useful for... "self-defense".
no subject
I can't build anything for you. My factories and inventories are regularly inspected and inventoried by the police in wake of the incident with my father.
[All for the sake of making the public know that she isn't supplying the next Equalist revolution. The Sato name isn't going to live that down for a long time, after the damage caused by Hiroshi.]
If I get busted, you get busted.

I am aware of the inspections at your factory. I've arranged for another hidden facility - not far from your factory - to be set up where you may work without interference. Its entrance is hidden in the back room of a Paisho den, so if anyone follows you, it will just look like you've taken a keener interest in the hobby.

Finally, a thought occurs to her. Maybe she has to give him tech. But she doesn't have to give him good tech. How long will it take for him to notice the difference? Hopefully long enough for her to come up with an idea.]
I work on my own time.
[So, yes, she'll do this.]
no subject
Your time belongs to me now, Ms. Soto. You will come to the Lucky Dragon Paisho Parlor at 10 pm tomorrow. You will ask the manager to show you to "the private game". I will give you further instruction there.
If you do not show, I assure you these documents will be in the hands of Tan-Mae-Zan Publishing by the next morning.
((Tan-Mae-Zan is a newspaper publisher known for its eagerness to spread dirt on anyone famous in Republic City. The paper is immensely popular.))

[That's all she wants to say on the matter. Asami is still, body subtly tense and at the ready just in case he tries anything funny.
She's already not going to be able to sleep tonight.]
