Test Drive Meme #3

☯ 1. The barrier has fallen and the entirety of the Avatar world is open for exploration. If you're going to the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom or any of the Air Temples, you might have a few days to travel. Stuck on a boat, airship or flying bison; yeesh! Those headed to the Fire Nation have the option of taking an ominous-looking portal located on Air Temple Island which will zip them straight there! No matter the destination, the population of each nation seems a little... thinned out.

☯ 2. Do you have an OU counterpart somewhere? Does that counterpart have some kind of bending-related ability? Then today is your lucky today! Gone are the days of bending (or non-bending); today, you get the powers your OU counterpart has! Alternatively, you thought you were out of the woods when everyone else had their bending messed up; not so anymore!

☯ 3. The city is in desperate need of vigilantes. Maybe. Vandals are ruining the city. Some are destroying property while others are making inappropriate graffiti on the walls and streets of the city.

☯ 4. Fresh off the boat? You know, now that all the barriers have dropped? Well you better find yourself a place to live and a place to work; otherwise you might as well make yourself home in Avatar Korra Park or ask for help on Air Temple Island.

☯ 5. Carve your own path!

4! (Though I am canon-blind.)

[Mia is fresh off the boat as well as she walks along the harbourfront of Republic City, trying to snag a moment's worth of time from anyone here. All she really wants to do is first find where the police station is and then find a temporary place to stay which will, for better or worse, become permanent. But nonetheless, everyone seems busy, especially at the wharf, during this window when ships can actually sail to and fro between the various nations!]

I know that the closest Police Station is at the corner of Kyoshi Avenue, sir. But I don't know where that is. Could you please spare a moment to—oof!

[And it's that moment when Mia wasn't looking where she was going and accidentally runs headlong into Dr. Oobleck. Oops?]
caffeinebullettime: (Did I read from biased reports why this)

Same here I'm afraid!

[personal profile] caffeinebullettime 2014-11-24 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
[WELL THIS IS A SURPRISE he was a little too busy nyooming everywhere while reading some new reports to really avoid running into people too. He falls to the ground, only to immediately leap back to his feet.]

Ah, my apologies young lady, I was not watching where I was going! I was preoccupied with the latest papers on the advances of Earthbending in the community! By comparing it to past studies of the practice, we could understand the development and change of bending of the course of many years! The effects on current events could be astounding!

[Aw yeah history.]
mercuryadept: (embarrassed)

[Mia doesn't quite fall over, able to save herself by planting her staff on the ground and managing to lean upon it. She spins about in place to take a look at the doctor, and by the time she does so, he's practically already in the motion of getting up on his feet. So much for being the nice lady and helping him back up!

[And wow, that was a big information dump too. She hadn't expected so thorough a greeting herself!]

My apologies, too. I should have been more careful in all this crowd. I didn't see you dashing past. [She offers her hand to the doctor, though she's still slightly tentative as his entire rationale almost zings in one ear and out the other.] My name's Mia, and I've just come from the Northern Water Tribe. You... are...?
caffeinebullettime: (Look where I point! More history there!)

[personal profile] caffeinebullettime 2014-11-28 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[He can't stop info dumping for his life. History is too important.]

Understandable, completely understandable, Republic City's status as capital of the United Republic of Nations makes it incredibly busy, with people of all sorts of cultural backgrounds all gathered together to find their own success in life.

Water Tribe you say? SPLENDID! The arrival of more immigrants in our city can only further the progress of culture and prosperity, current economic inequality aside! Ah, yes, I'm Dr. Barthomew Oobleck of Republic City University! If it has not been done already, I shall formally welcome you to Republic City! WELCOME!
mercuryadept: (shy)

[personal profile] mercuryadept 2014-11-30 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, Mia at least will finally laugh a little at this. Even if the doctor is just going on about a couple rather unimportant nuances, the doctor's sort of mania is kind of interesting. And he seems friendly enough.]

Well that certainly is true. Our capital at the North Pole is fairly big too, though not quite anything like this. And not quite this busy.

But thanks! I actually haven't been formally welcomed quite yet, unless you count the ship captain who brought me here as a formal welcome. [She offers her hand to shake his.] Doctor Oobleck, you say? Is that a doctor like a healer? Or a doctor as in a researcher?
caffeinebullettime: (Gonna fight for your liiiiiffffeee~)

[personal profile] caffeinebullettime 2014-11-30 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Completely understandable, the cold climate of your region does tend to discourage tourists, no offense intended. On the other hand, I've known a thrill-seeking student or two to travel to the North in order to test the chill for themselves. I myself visited in my youth, although I haven't had the chance to learn more about your culture first-hand due to various financial concerns.

[He grabs her hand and gives it an incredibly fast-paced shake.] Good, good, glad to hear the captain maintains a sense of adventure in these conflicting times of cultural collision! [Thank goodness he talks quick because only after finishing that sentence does he let go to point dramatically in the air.]

Yes, I have a PhD in world history, currently working on an archaeological degree in my minimal spare time. I teach history up at the university! Granted, given the current economic wealth inequality, my class tends to make-up the richest of the rich rather than a wider variety of students! However, I hope to impart onto them the importance of equality and community!

[Yes, he literally just gave out his major goals, motivations, and personal opinions of students to a person he just met. Such is the way of the Oobleck.]
mercuryadept: (friendly)

[personal profile] mercuryadept 2014-12-02 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, this guy at the very least seems quite friendly. Perhaps eccentric and perhaps a little bit odd, but definitely friendly. The extremely fast handshake almost takes the words away from her for a moment.]

Ah, I only asked because I was trained as a healer in the North, so I wasn't entirely sure if you were the same sort of... doctor as I would be considered to be.

And no offense about the North. It is... admittedly a little bit frigid for some, though I do have to say that even this climate might be a bit warm for me in the summer months; thankfully the solstice is approaching fast, so it's not too terrible here, I don't think. But yes, it does cut down on the visitors up there.

Well, since you're much more familiar with Republic City than I am, you wouldn't know where I could find a police station here? I'm trying to figure out if my cousin passed through this way?

[Forgive her, Oobleck; she won't be divulging her entire life's story as easily!]
caffeinebullettime: (Have you heard about the Uprisings of 48)

[personal profile] caffeinebullettime 2014-12-03 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
An understandable clarification to ask for! And good good! Healing is a grand practice that heals wounds rather than creates them, definitively improving situation immensely! In the difficult state the world has found itself in, healers are one of many essential aspects of the present and future! I hope you are proud and happy with the training you received, although I will not make judgement if that practice ended up not suiting your tastes!

Oh, of course, this must be a surprising amount of warmth to someone who I assume has spent their entire lives thus far in the North, forgive me if I'm mistaken!

Yes, of course! The Metalbending Police Force Headquarters is one of the oldest and most intricate buildings in the entirety of Republic City! There, citizens can request aid, criminals are kept in holding, and the Police Force's airships and vehicles are kept! The building can be found deep near the center of the city. It is best recognized by the statue of Toph Beifong over the front entrance!

[He's totally okay with that. Besides, it'll probably save time with Oobleck's completely necessary history rants taking up some time.]
mercuryadept: (ehh?)

[personal profile] mercuryadept 2014-12-04 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no no, healing suits me just fine. I mean, I'm trained in many of the disciplines of waterbending, but healing I've found is one of my particular talents. And it helps me tend to the sick and those injured, so... I'm more than happy to be able to do so.

So... [Well, as friendly as Dr. Oobleck is, he wasn't very helpful. She asked for directions, not a history of the police station... or, worse still, a description of it.] I hope this statue of Toph Beifong is easy to come by?
