We’ve been watching the community for the last few weeks and listening to Plurk. And unfortunately we’ve had to come to a very difficult conclusion: The game does not have enough momentum to move forward and is in no position to regain that momentum.
Sometimes this happens, especially in smaller games. A widescale loss in momentum, and then ultimately in players, is hard to sustain. Every single player means something to a small game, and every single player is affected by what happens to another.
This is not to put the blame on anyone’s head, because it doesn’t belong to any single person. The game started to lose momentum in December, unfortunately, and never recovered in January. With morale gone and posting lagging, there is nothing to attract new players and fresh energy.
With all of that, we have made the difficult decision to close the game. This is not a decision that we made easily or lightly, but ultimately we feel that the game’s internal structure requires more work and time than can be sustained by the game’s momentum. We would rather cut it off and have a definite end point rather than let it drag out and fizzle. We are sorry to do this; we know players loved the game when it started (we did too!), and we are sorry not to see it flourish. But sometimes circumstances are bigger than all of us, and some problems are too large to overcome.
Both of us have not given up on the Avatar world, or in the idea of having a game set in its universe. As we close this game, we will be working to build a new one from scratch in the coming months –- and we hope you’ll join us then.
It’s been a pleasure and a privilege working with all of you. Thank you.
