Oh, lord. My mind, it breaks. Toph at 80. (Would Opal even have ever seen her?)

Yep! In Book 3 she mentions when Grandma Toph used to still visit and how she talked a lot about her Aunt Lin. Toph is gone traveling the world now apparently and Korra's set to run into her in Book 4.

Ooh, okay. (And aw.) What would Opal do if she realized Toph was about?

(And yeah, I spoiled myself for the preview, and I'm kind of terrified, but we'll see!)

I can only speak from other games but in Luceti once she realized who Aang was, she was thrilled. For her it's an opportunity to talk more about her grandmother's adventures and to get to know someone who was important to her. It really puts all the stories in a whole new light too.

I can only imagine how weird it would be to meet one's grandmother as a younger person. At the same time though, Opal would love to get to know her. It's a rare opportunity to meet a side of the woman she loves that she never knew before.

Now whether Toph would think the same... honestly I think her easygoing nature would bug Toph. She's got herself an assertive streak though that they're apparently going to explore more now in Book 4 so she might like that part of her. Opal's a nice girl but she's not the kind to let people use her.

I'll have to see this easygoing nature to know for sure.

On Toph's side, especially at 13, the matter of family is still a stressful thing. To her, family means expectations, and expectations are things she's never been able to measure up to. At the same time, she craves family, and wants that security and acceptance . . . so it becomes a little war inside of her.

At least last time in her last game, her desire to know Lin and the fact that Lin had been nothing but patient (and even helpful and friendly) won out. (I should probably note, though, that she didn't know who Lin was until they'd already gotten to know each other for a while.)

Aww, that's sweet! For Opal, family is a very precious thing and the one thing in her life she doesn't want to see fail. If Suyin did a good job at anything it was raising a close-knit family of her own. Opal was afraid of hurting her mother some how with her desire to leave for training with the other airbenders. And there's been some more developments with Book 4 so far that show just how deeply she feels about protecting family.

I suppose we'll have to take it as it goes and see how things pan out between the pair of them.
