A: ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER YUAN

[ it had been a hard time getting acclimated, after realizing lucy had essentially been dumped in a world that was not hers, nor a world ever known to her, and without any member of her guild or celestial spirits in sight. yes, it had been tough, but she was, if anything, a survivor, and she was determined to do what she could with what she had.

which explains why she is currently waiting tables at the local tea shop, because a girl's gotta eat. and rent is still rent, no matter what world you're in.

Good afternoon, welcome to our shop~ [ see this blinding smile? see this warm reception? DON'T YOU JUST WANT TO TIP HER? ] My name's Lucy. How can I help you today?

B: MY LIFE SUCKS

[ turns out, that decently-priced apartment with the spacious bedroom and closet and bathtub? there's a reason it's so decently priced, and that reason apparently being the triads. really, she should have been told the walk back to her apartment is smack dab in the middle of gang territory, though there's nothing like experiencing it for yourself, she supposes. ]

[ it's late at night, and she's probably waking up the neighbors, but at the moment she doesn't care because she's stuck cowering beside a street vendor on her knees, holding her hands over her head in an attempt to avoid the crossfire of some gang skirmish.

there is a sudden blast of fire from behind her, prompting another yelp of dismay. she jumps to her feet and starts running in the opposite direction, though she's not even sure now if this is taking her further or closer to the fight. ]

C: MAKE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

[ have an idea that isn't one of the ones mentioned above? feel free to throw it up! ]

Or rather, a girl in some sort of costume. Is it ethnic or something? You'll probably have to ask her. What is abundantly clear, though, is that despite the fact she really doesn't look to be suited for combat, she's currently making cracks across the pavement with her sword.

Except the sword can detach to become a whip, and she's not actually using the whip the break up the ground.]

Huh? Where did you come from?! [It seems she's somehow involved in the fight, too-- the Firebender who threw the blast near Lucy's direction has been pinned to the wall with her Earthbendning.] Nevermind-- you're not supposed to be here, are you?

[ w-wow! that's rude! she happens to live right around the block, THANK YOU VERY MUCH oh do you mean here in this world in general? in which case, yes, very much so, if her bright blonde hair hadn't made it obvious enough, her complete shock over everything happening around her would pretty much seal the deal.

though this is the first time she's ever seen a bender have such an... interesting weapon. (the outfit, not so much; they're actually a little reminiscent of something she might see back home, weh.) ]

I — [ wait nevermind her ] — where did you come from?!

[ lucy that is not how you thank your savior. ]

[She means this turf war! ...Which is dumb, because Kai isn't supposed to be here too. Haha? But she lives nearby too, so she can minimize the amount of money spent on rent and such. A girl's got to send money back to the folks, right? So while she isn't involved, per say, she's... kind of used to these fights.]

A hawker center down the street. [Yeah, that totally answers the question.] Are you a non-bender? Follow me! We'll have to wait this fight out--

[--And at that moment, a jet of flames suddenly flare up right between them. Lucy won't be hurt, though she'll definitely feel the heat. Kai, on the other hand, doesn't sound like she got out of that scot-free.]

Ow, ow, ow! How dare you attack defenseless maidens like us! You'll pay for that! [Kai knows that as long as she runs away quickly enough, she won't get arrested. So she doesn't hesitate to lift a whole chunk of rock from the road to toss it in the direction of the fire.

Do you really want to trust this girl...]

[ lucy is incredibly Unsure right now. between the flames, and the flying rocks, she just feels like she's walked into another dimension

that's not completely off-base.

but it's still so very weird to see, okay! this isn't the kind of "magic" she's used to, even if she's been a front seat audience to gray's ice techniques and juvia's water blasts. this just feels like another thing entirely.

in the thick of it all, she remains. because she honestly doesn't even know where to begin running. the other girl had seemed helpful at first, but now even she's in the throes of the fight and she just wants to go hooooome.

but more importantly— ]

Can you really call yourself defenseless?!

[Don't worry, Kai has a real tendency to make people [[unsure]] about everything. After neutralizing/disposing/slamming-the-face-of the person who was spewing fire at them, she yells back without hesitation towards Lucy.]

Of course! Just because I'm a muscle-bound beauty doesn't mean I'm not defenseless! [Defenseless at times, anyway. She looks around for any other sources of combat before raising her hand towards the outerdimensional visitor.

...If this was a movie, a cheesy, dramatic soundtrack would be playing right now, while Kai is stretching out her hand and expecting to receive Lucy's.]

Just trust me. I've been through this a few times already.

[ gurl she comes from a shounen manga, cheesy and dramatic is a way of life.

as such, lucy doesn't find her mannerisms to be all that odd (a little vain, perhaps, but it's not like lucy can really hold that against her or anything.) ]

O-Okay...

[ wait. ]

If you're defenseless, how are you supposed to help me?!

[Luckily, sometimes help is only a cry away.

Right in the heart of triad territory is exactly the kind of place that the Fox haunts, after all. And when they're making trouble, when Benders are making a nuisance of themselves, you had best believe that an ex-Equalist vigilante is going to be on the job.

His timing couldn't have been better, either. Because he can see the girl running, the shockingly blonde girl, no less, right in the same direction the Firebender is now facing. No witnesses, isn't that the Triad way? But he's not going to allow that. Not Yinhu. Not the Fox. Which is exactly why he springs into action, hurling out one of his bolas to tangle up the Firebender's feet.]

Get down!

[The words are barked sharply from behind his mask as he dives at the girl. Because taking the Firebender's legs out from under him hasn't stopped him from Bending, and Yinhu needs to make sure there are no casualties. No more collateral damage. No more.

So, sorry Lucy. You're going to be on the receiving end of a flying tackle. At least you aren't on fire!]

[ correction: this day has just leveled up from worst day of her year to quite possibly the worst day of her life.

there's just not a lot of good things to be said about suddenly having your entire body tackled to the ground by someone much larger than you, with way more muscle mass, nearly making you eat dirt for possibly the second time that evening in an attempt to dodge an attack.

sure, they're singe-free, but she's definitely going to feel that one the next morning. ]

Owww...

[ she shifts slowly, face twisted in pain as she attempts to move out from under the weight over her. she turns her head, just in time to catch sight of her "rescuer's" face.

"face." ]

—a-ahhh!

[ with a sharp yell, lucy scrambles backwards, suddenly all arms and legs as she tries to shove the masked man off of her. ]

I don't have any money, leave me alone!

[ blonde hair, lack of street smarts to avoid a triad turf war, and mistaking an equalist for a mugger?

oh yeah. she's definitely new. ]

[Yeah, okay, maybe he could have been a little more gentle, but he's kind of in a hurry here, right? So cut him a little slack. After all, he did just save her from being roasted. That probably deserves a little bit of credit.

That said, getting elbowed in the face by the person you're attempting to rescue? Never a good thing.]

[The sound of a chunk of earth being ripped out the ground and propelled towards you is one that you get used to very, very quickly, if it's going to continue to be a problem. As such, Yinhu doesn't waste time on words, instead shoving himself off the ground and flipping out of the way. He has only a little bit of time to look from the clearly terrified and very fresh-off-the-boat girl and the Triads before making a decision:

Fight? Or flight?

Normally, he'd pick fight. After all, he is a vigilante. Crime fighter is kind of in the job description. But right now? Right now he needs to get this girl in a place she's not going to die.

And that clearly isn't here.]

[Which he is also not making a choice, as he just reaches out to grab her wrist and pull her off the ground. If he's gonna run, it's time to start running.]

[ suuure you weren't, strange masked man... that's just what a person robbing you would definitely say!

but it's not as if she could even protest — before she can even realize what's happening, the stranger grabs her by the wrist, tugging her along towards who-knows-where. in her shock, lucy can only stumble along after him, though she thankfully doesn't trip up all over herself in the process. ]

W-Wait...! Where are you taking me—?!

[ her night already sucks, mr. mask stranger. please don't add 'kidnapping' to the list of terrible no good things that's already happened to her today! ]

[He shouldn't care, it's not his business. Hell, if any of the Triad found out and could potentially construe it to being some kind of act against them, he'd be in hot water in the blink of an eye.

But playing the hero was one of his downfalls and only a moment's hesitation after hearing that cry for help, he acts.

A long-haired young man appears beside her as what seems to be a bubble surrounds them, a bubble of air.]

What the hell do you think you're doing here? Come on, before either of us get our asses handed to us.

[Without further explanation, he jerks his thumb back the way he came, indicating she should follow him that way and away from the fighting.]

[ lucy has about two seconds to stare in wonder at her... savior??? before he's suddenly demanding they move. she reacts before she can actually think about it, body jerking up from her position on the ground, hastily following him. ]

H-Hey, wait—!

[ that bubble of air. he's one of them? those bender people?? ]

Yeah, not till we're out of the way.

[Waiting could come later, running was first. But then they turn a corner to find themselves in the middle of another duel and no way to go but back. Or up.

Dammit.]

Hold on to me.

[Without waiting for a response, he wrapped his arm around her waist and jumped, taking them both into the sky and onto the nearest roof.

As soon as they were safely out of the way, he let her go.]

Gang wars aren't good for evening walks, haven't you heard?

[ this guy made a real habit of just doing things, doesn't he?? but at least he had the courtesy to warn her... sort of...

in any case, hope you enjoyed that piercing shrieking in your ear during the whole jump up. she's stumbling out of his hold as soon as her feet touch the roof, but she still looks pretty frazzled...

amidst all the emotions she could be settling on right now, she opts for indignation, because priorities. ]

It's not my fault my route home is in Triad territory..!

[Sorry, it's what he does. At least she's not fried--? Jet gives her a look like he doesn't understand as he finds somewhere to sit.]

Can't you find another route? Something safer?

[ her hands settle on her hips, lips pursing into a pout. ]

I only just found out tonight. My landlady seems to have forgotten to mention that part when leasing my apartment.

[ but enough about that... she just eyes him a little, eyes squinting. ]

You're not from around here too, aren't you? [ it's the blond hair. she doesn't see it that often here. ]

[Yeah, that was typical, he felt kinda sorry for her since she was obviously new to the area if not the city itself.

Aaand then she confirmed that thought with her question. He shrugged.]

I was born in Republic City.

[Not that he knew where he was from since he'd never known his parents.]
