☯ 1. The barrier has fallen and the entirety of the Avatar world is open for exploration. If you're going to the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom or any of the Air Temples, you might have a few days to travel. Stuck on a boat, airship or flying bison; yeesh! Those headed to the Fire Nation have the option of taking an ominous-looking portal located on Air Temple Island which will zip them straight there! No matter the destination, the population of each nation seems a little... thinned out.
☯ 2. Do you have an OU counterpart somewhere? Does that counterpart have some kind of bending-related ability? Then today is your lucky today! Gone are the days of bending (or non-bending); today, you get the powers your OU counterpart has! Alternatively, you thought you were out of the woods when everyone else had their bending messed up; not so anymore!
☯ 3. The city is in desperate need of vigilantes. Maybe. Vandals are ruining the city. Some are destroying property while others are making inappropriate graffiti on the walls and streets of the city.
☯ 4. Fresh off the boat? You know, now that all the barriers have dropped? Well you better find yourself a place to live and a place to work; otherwise you might as well make yourself home in Avatar Korra Park or ask for help on Air Temple Island.
I am still no writer... I do not think I would have the words.
[Even if he's flattered a fellow tribesman would think his story was worth passing on. Traditionally in their tribe, that was generally only reserved for great myths about heroes and spirits.]
[Well if he's flattered at least his plan is slowly working. Very slowly.]
Well, keep thinking about it! I'm trying to get started making movers again, I had to stay out of the city for a while for... certain reasons, so I haven't had a chance to get back in the directing seat for a while. Luckily my old mover star is back in town, too. Bolin, nice kid. You should meet him some time!
Oh, mine's probably the biggest one down there. Way better than anything they got in the Fire Nation. I bet those don't even have their own tennis courts!
[Varrick finishes off the last of his noodles and waves the waitress over.]
C'mon, I'll settle up and we can go take a gander.
[Connor nods and finishes eating. Usually he'd wolf down his meals in no time, but conversation with Varrick had been interesting enough to distract him, on this occassion. That done, he busies himself gathering up all his weapons again.]
I will repay you later for the food, you have my word.
[Even for Connor, "wonderful company" is laying it on a little too thick, and he gives him a look as if unsure as to whether he's being sarcastic.]
Lead the way, then.
[He thanks the waitress as he leaves (to yet more stares from the patrons), and, once back out on the street, stares at the buildings as if awed by them all over again. This really is going to take some getting used to.]
[he takes them right down to the end of the dock where his yacht is parked. Yep, it's pretty amazing. More like a floating mansion than anything anyone would call a boat. Varrick stands back for a moment with his arms crossed to give Connor time to be impressed.]
[Like most Water Tribe men of his time, he's well-versed in ships and sailing, so he's eager to see how something completely different like this compares.]
[It is pretty cool, and Varrick likes to show off.
He leads them down into the lower desks, which are all immaculately clean and decked out in blue and white carpeting and paint. Electric lights keep it lit as they go down.]
As soon as people switched from coal engines to gasoline fuels, ships were able to get a lot bigger and faster. Not to mention you're not getting coal dust everywhere! Here it is!
[The engine room is at the end of a long hallway, and just as clean and well kept as the rest of it. A single engineer is working on something, but Varrick waves him off and picks up the tools himself to finish the repair on his own.
Because showing off. Obviously.]
And then I took the idea of that and made it a lot more efficient.
[Connor looks around, examining everything. The only familiarity he has with engines is the Fire Nation machinery he's sabotaged in the past, and even so, that pales in comparison to this.]
With an engine like this, you do not have to be answerable to the wind or the currents. It is like the people of your time have mastered the elements with these inventions... even without bending.
[Which seems like a very obvious observation, now that he says it out loud, but these are all incredibly new revelations to him.]
[Varrick leans back to inspect his own handy-work, hands on his hips.]
As a non-bender I had to find my own way around this stuff, you know? It's not like it used to be any more, anyone can get a job if they got the brains for it, don't matter if you got mastering over the elements or nothing.

Perhaps our paths will cross while I am here. What kind of movers has he performed in?

[wat.]

"Nuktuk" is one of the leading roles, I assume?

It's pretty gripping stuff.

[... Yeah, he's imagining a tiny little Water Tribe boat. (Why is everything in Republic City supersized, anyway???)]

Is the ship as large as the ones we saw at port today, then? They were even larger than anything I've seen even in the Fire Navy's fleet.

[by this point it's clear the flirting is going right over his head so by this point it's mainly just for fun.]
I'm just docked around the corner from here.

There she is! Pretty neat, huh?

My entire village could board that ship! Perhaps even two or three villages could.

Wanna take a look inside?

[Up the gangway they go!]
You wanna see the fancy stuff or the nitty gritty first? The engine room's pretty neat, it's this revolutionary diesel engine I developed!
Or we could just go straight to the ballroom and swimming desk.
no subject
Can we see the engine first? I would like to see for myself how it works.
