♥ 1. Where did you come from? You may not know anyone else on the boat, but you've all got one thing in common; you're headed to Republic City. ♥ 2. It's your first day in Republic City. You might wanna get a job lined up or you'll be living on the streets. ♥ 3. You're the new person in the city. You gotta make some friends, right? Go find someone and strike up a conversation.
♦ 4. Feeling a little crafty? Maybe you could make a quick yuan. Sell information for money or do a little threatening. ♦ 5. Vines. Vines everywhere! They're like the heads of a hydra. What are you going to do about the vines that just invaded your apartment? ♦ 6. Triads, Equalists... thugs in general. Welcome to the aftermath of losing a fight. Are you gonna go find a healer or are you gonna tough it out?
♣ 7. You've got a job. What is it? How are you going to get customers? You better get some soon. More customers equals more money. ♣ 8. You're a bender, right? Then you better practice it. What's that? Oh, a non-bender? You can still find a partner to spar with, right? ♣ 9. It's late. Have a drink at the pub! Get to know one another. Let it all flow freely!
♠ 10. Yeah! You've got a driver's license! Everyone else better watch out... ♠ 11. Entertainment's just rolled on into the city! Watch the ostrich-horses race or the acrobats perform. Or maybe you're one of them! ♠ 12. It's a long line at whatever vendor you're at. Make small talk with nearby civilians or try and haggle the vendor down to a better price.

No.
No it can't be.
When Zuko's six or seven steps away, Bumi calls out to him.]
Zuko? FireLo...Prince Zuko?

ruttingbadgermoles.
[Then he gets really excited, and in a few long strides is standing by Zuko's side again.]
This doesn't make any sense, but....wow. Unbelievable. I can't wait to tell Mom!
no subject
Why would you tell your mom?
no subject
[Beat.]
You have no idea who I am, do you.
[It's less a question than it is a realization.]
no subject
[He hasn't been a prince in a couple years, now.]
No, should I?
no subject
Really? I thought you'd have been taller by that point.
[Bumi shakes his head, as if to clear it, before offering his forearm for clasping in the traditional Southern Water Tribe style. Because...of COURSE Bumi would think it'd just be fine to reach out and touch the leader of one of the four nations. It's one part not giving a rat-lizard's ass about station, and part being taller than most of them to begin with.]
Commander Bumi. Well..Retired, but still. I'm Aang and Katara's oldest son.
no subject
Aang and Katara had kids?!
[Of course he really shouldn't be surprised. Considering how Aang and Katara have been all over each other. It only makes sense that they would get together. And being the last Air Nomad, of course Aang would have kids. But none of these thoughts even cross Zuko's mind in that split moment.]

[In lieu of the handshake, which he's pretty sure he's not going to get...given that reaction, Bumi claps Wee-to-him Zuko on the shoulder.]
A mental image that lingers at least three times.
no subject
Ugh. That's a mental image I didn't need.
[Why Bumi. Why.]
no subject
The older man just laughs, and as he laughs he pulls Zuko into a hug. Because hugs are just a standard issue thing as far as Bumi is concerned. Especially for family, which Zuko is.]
So what happened? Spirit World shenanigans? How did you end up here this...wee. Last I heard you were the right age and wandering the Earth Kingdom.
no subject
[So he really was in the future. Wait a minute.]
Wait, I'm still alive?
[He heard that Aang had died, so he kinda just assumed...]
no subject
[Bumi then remembers he's still carrying a bag of Fire Flakes. And that most of their contents are still scattered about his person, including in his hair and beard. So he shakes head head to be free of them, and then offers the now mostly empty bag to Zuko.]
Fire Flake?
no subject
[Since when did he have a dragon? Zuko looks at them a moment then reaches for the Fire Flakes. When he puts one in his mouth, he coughs and spits off to the side.]
Ugh! These are terrible!
[Apparently they don't make them like they use to.]
no subject
[Bumi says this with a laugh, and just keeps on eating them. Hey, when you're used to K Rations, anything tastes better. Even things that don't taste anything like they're supposed to.]
Way I figure it, there's got to be something about the water in the Fire Nation that just makes the impostors never quite taste the same. Druk won't even eat them, if memory serves. That's your dragon, by the way.
no subject
I have a dragon?
no subject
Named Druk.
[Now he's tossing the flakes into the air and catching them with his mouth. There is not the slightest bit of surprise that this guy is related to Sokka by blood.]
Big guy. Red.
LETS SEE HOW YOU ANSWER THIS
How did I get a dragon?
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
[The narration did mention the relation to Sokka.
Bumi stops himself mid digression just long enough to laugh at his own joke, going so far as to wipe tears of mirth from his eyes...but forgetting that he had fire flake crumbs on his hands.
Ouch, that's going to smart.]
Druk's from the egg that you and Dad tried to steal from the Sun Warrior temple.

The glowing gem? It was a dragon egg?
[It had felt sort of alive... whoa. He'd never thought that there was a real dragon inside of it though. Or that he would end up with it one day.]

What was Aang like? When he was older I mean.
no subject
[Bumi always did have a soft spot for good ol' Aunt Toph. Mostly because she found his utter disregard for convention hilarious.]
no subject
So does that mean you're an airbender?
[Naturally he would expect to have lots of airbending children in order to repopulate the Air Nomad culture. His culture had always been very important to him after all.]
