exploring the city or at a tea shop
[He'd never seen a city like this before. All the great cities of the world that he had seen in his life couldn't compare to this. Machines called 'Satomobiles' zipped through the streets, statues of the Avatar and some of his friends could be found outside some of the landmarks. He even paused to admire his nephew's for a while, a proud smile on his face at the young man's accomplishments. A trip to Avatar Aang's memorial island at least provided some information about where he was. To think, this was once the Yu Dao colony. The world truly was a wondrous place.]
2. Tea Shop
[It really shouldn't be a surprise that Iroh had found a tea shop. Instead of relaxing though, he's offered himself up to work. Spreading joy by making and serving tea was a joy he had experienced after the war. Why not continue it in this new future place?]
TEA SHOP
So with an eager smile, wan entered the shop, found a seat, shut his eyes, and just smelled the air.]

Welcome, welcome. Is there anything I can get for you?
no subject
[His eyes cracked open and he gave an embarrassed smile to the old man, fully expecting to be kicked out.]
no subject
[Though ten minutes later if Wan's still there, Iroh's earned himself a short break
something about labor laws?and a pot of tea for his good work. And he'll bring it over to Wan's table with two cups.]Would you care to share a pot with me? It's ginseng.
no subject
When the old man came back some time later, Wan was once more surprised by him. But it earned the man a smile and a nod.]
Sure. I don't mind, but I still don't have any money. You won't get in trouble, will you?
no subject
[He poured out a piping hot cup for each of them and set the pot where they could both reach.]
Please, help yourself if you would like more.

Tea shop of course
There was certainly a welcoming air to it, familiar eventhough he had never been to this establishment. It was getting to that time of night when there were a few customers scattered about...which led him pondering for a moment how close it was to closing time. He didn't know the shop's business hours and he didn't like being that customer who showed up ten minutes before closing.
Well, he was already here, and there was an elderly gentleman coming to greet him now, so there was no point turning back. He tipped his hat to him.]
Good evening. I hope I have not inconvenienced you for coming at this hour. [An archeologist's life is a busy one]
no subject
Of course you haven't, please, take a seat. Would you like some tea?
no subject
I would quite like that, thank you. [And he settled himself down at a table. He could feel the aches from standing around all day slowly melt away now that he was sitting down.]
Usually I'd ask for a spot of earl grey tea, but I've heard I shouldn't pass up on the jasmine tea here if I ever visited this shop.
no subject
Jasmine is my personal favorite, so my recommendation is biased. Though if you would prefer earl grey, I will get that for you.
[No swaying, no suggesting to just get both. That's just his style. The customer knows what the customer wants.]
no subject
[Why not? Although to be honest, Hershel would enjoy any tea offered in front of him.] The name's Hershel Layton. How may I address you?
no subject
[He bowed his head and retreated to the kitchen to brew up some fresh jasmine tea. When he does return, he's keeping the pot nice and hot with one hand and carrying a cup in the other. Iroh sets down the cup and carefully pours out the tea for him.]
I hope you find it to your liking, Hershel.

2
So he stops into a tea shop and seems impressed by the atmosphere. He hasn't yet noticed the presence of a certain someone, but he happens to be pondering aloud.]
Wow, this almost reminds me of Iroh's tea shop. I wonder what happened to him these days...
no subject
Asking questions is often a good way of finding the answers you seek. [Iroh smiles warmly as he approaches.] It is good to see you again, Aang.
no subject
Iroh! It's good to see you, too! Wow... You don't look a day older than that time we celebrated the end of the war at your tea shop!
no subject
That's the last time I saw all of you. The next day, I found myself on a boat headed for this city. I'm not quite sure how I got there, but I suppose life had a few more surprises in store for me than I thought. I must say, it's nice to see familiar faces here.
no subject
Really? That's like how I got here! I'm really glad to see familiar faces, too. [It makes it different from the last time he found himself in the future. This time he's not alone.]
Do you really think this is the future?
no subject
It's very possible. Everything I've seen here so far suggests that we're in the future. While I've seen my share of large cities, I've never seen one quite like this. [It didn't just sprawl out, it reached high into the skies too. And all the mechanical contraptions that could be seen were just incredible. The airships in the sky were especially a huge surprise when he first arrived.]
But if this isn't the future, then we have more questions besides exactly how we got here and why.
[Such as why make a place that looks like it could be from their future?]

Tea Shop (AU'd) - Iroh's good with grumpy kids on quests, right?
So, the door to the tea shop bangs open and in walks a girl. Around the end of her teenage years by the looks of her, and fairly clearly a wanderer by her well-worn clothes and boots. She makes her way over to a table away from the door, near a window and drops both her pack and an odd curved sword with an ornate red handle beside it before slumping down onto a chair with a huff.
Big city like this, somebody'd have to have the answers she's after but for now, it's just good to sit for a damn second.]
absolutely! they're his specialty :'D
He was about halfway through his shift when the girl walked in. So he finished washing the teapot that had come back shortly before her arrival as she settled in. He set it to air dry and stepped out of the kitchen to greet her.]
Welcome, traveler. Would you like some tea?
I came to the expert, then!
She turned her head when Iroh came over, dismissing her thoughts for the moment.]
Yeah, why not. Somethin' not too expensive though. [She grimaced a bit as her stomach let out a little growl.] Do you got anything to eat around here? I know, tea shop, but I ain't picky.
no subject
[He got the water hot and the leaves steeping. They could sit while he searched around for any food. --Aha! A fruit tart. If she was on a budget, it was cheaper than the cakes. Hopefully she'd like it. He set it on a little tray with a cup and plate, carrying the pot in one hand to keep the tea piping hot. With the tray set in front of her, he poured out a cup for her.]
There. I know pastries aren't the most filling, but maybe this one will carry you until you can find something more sustaining.
no subject
[Just one fruit tart but you'd think it was a feast the way she grabs it up from the tray as soon as it's set in front of her. One bite, two and it's gone, chomped down like she hadn't seen real food for days. Still chewing she goes for the tea next and. Swallows the whole thing. In one gulp.]
Ghk--!
[Her eyes bulge for a second and she goes stiff as a board, struggling with the mouthful of steaming hot tea for a second before managing to swallow it down. You can nearly see the steam on the breath she puffs out and her voice is a little strained.]
... S'not bad.
no subject
Even if you are very hungry, everything tastes better when you take your time. When was the last time you ate?
